Top 10 Fashion Designers 2010

Fashion styles come and go, but a good designer is forever even after death as their signature styles live on. Everything we wear has been designed specifically for us and has come from some of the most brilliant designers in the world. France, Italy, the United States, and many more have blessed us with some incredibly talented fashion designers and we would like to thank them for making fashion what it is today. So here are our top 10 favorite fashion designers of this year!

#1. Dolce & Gabbana

Dolce&Gabbana
Modern, eclectic and contemporary, Dolce & Gabbana is the ultimate fashion house and they never seem to miss a beat. Here’s our favorite 2009/2010 D&G design.

#2. Marc Jacobs

Marc Jacobs
This year, Marc Jacobs showcased the 80s when he introduced neon-hued, big shouldered styles which we fell in love with. Sure, not everyone can pull it off, but it’s still fun to look at!

#3. Alexander McQueen

alexander mcqueen
Alexander McQueen is everyone’s favorite ‘enfant terrible’ in the fashion industry, but whenever we see a show of his, we’re pretty much left speechless.

#4. Givenchy

givenchy
There is nothing classier than the Givenchy line and this year it showed with tons of thirties’ and forties’ styles with a modern twist. Just breathtaking!

#5. Prada

Prada
Can you say fashion reinvented? This year, the Prada fashion house stayed away from the 80s and swayed towards upholstery fabrics and forties styles.

#6. Belanciaga

belanciaga
It seems a lot of designers are going in the forties direction and Belanciaga is one of them. We just love their drapey styles!

#7. Gucci

gucci
Gucci’s been inspired by the glam rock style this year and we fell in love with it. Lots of thigh-high boots, leggings, leather jackets, the works!

#8. Chanel

chanel
Chanel’s been one of my favorite fashion houses for a long time and this year they went for a contemporary, toned-down look that might leave you feeling a little depressed, but very fashionable.

#9. Christian Dior

dior
Dior is one of the most sought-after designers and this year, Galliano outdid himself when he went back to behind-the-scenes documentary photographs taken more than half a century ago as Monsieur Dior dressed his cabine of mannequins for shows.

#10. Jean Paul Gaultier

Jean Paul Gaultier
Gaultier ran off with an 80s idea turned into geometric-deco meets sci-fi which we know the celebs are just going to go crazy for. As are we!

How to Wear Plaid

You’ve undoubtedly seen plaid styles all over the shelves this past summer and you’re more than likely going to see it in the fall as well. But most of us just think of lumberjacks whenever we see plaid and so because of that, it can be hard to incorporate it into our style. Here’s the 411 on how you can wear plaid successfully.

Plaid Dress

Plaid Dress Ensembles
Don’t be afraid to wear something unconventional…it might just work for you! Plaid tunic dresses are very hot right now and you can wear one with a pair of tights or leggings and knee-high boots.

Plaid Frilly Top

Frilly Plaid Tops and Dresses
Wear that silky, frilly, plaid top with a pair of black pants (get the plaid top in a somewhat bright color, it will go amazing with the black). Throw a boxy jacket on top and you’re looking fabulous!

Button-Down Shirt

Button Down Plaid Shirt
Ok so whenever you see these types of shirts the first thing that comes to mind is Farmer Jack, right? Well no worries, you can actually dress up this farmer shirt by pairing it up with neutral colors and basic denim. Add a pair of chunky heels and you’re good to go!

Plaid Tank

Plaid Tank
I absolutely love this cute plaid tank that you can wear either during the day or at night when going out. Pair with jeans or liquid leggings and a pair of heels. Make sure you keep the accessories to a minimum since the top is already pretty heavy.

Plaid Ruffled

Ruffled Top Outfit
If you go for a plaid ruffled top look, pair with jeans or a pencil skirt and knee-high boots or flats. Accessorize just a tiny little bit with gold for an extra kick.

Cowl Neck Plaid

Plaid Cowl Neck Shirt
Cowl necks are usually reserved for more classy outfits, but a plaid cowel neck top can look very fun and flirty with a pencil skirt, dress pants, jeans, or a mini.

Delicate Plaid

Plaid Top
Feminine, delicate plaid tops can look cute if paired with the right items. Rock a delicate plaid top with distressed denim and a pair of heels to keep it cute and sexy.

Expired Trends

Every season, fashion trends come and go, and if you think about it, only a few classic pieces ever stick around. So your best bet is to always stick with classic, ever-lasting items such as pencil skirts, button-up shirts, pea coats, etc. Of course if you’re gaga for fashion like I am, you probably like to try every new style out there, which unfortunately, always has an expiration date. But just so you don’t stray too far, here’s a list of all the expired trends that you should probably put on hold until they make a comeback.

Crocs

crocs
These things have been popular for a few years now, and it’s simply because they’re so comfortable. But no matter how comfy crocs may be, they just scream bad taste and ugly shoes. Get rid of them!

Tube Tops/Cropped Tops

cropped top
Ok, so you shouldn’t have been wearing small tube tops or cropped tops for some time now, but with 2010 around the corner, why not undergo a radical makeover and step up your wardrobe?

Capris

capris
I can honestly say I’ve never been a fan of capris just because they make me look shorter than I already am. For the new year, keep those capris tucked away!

Gauchos

gauchos
Although gauchos may be good for when you go to the beach, they’re not to be worn on the streets anymore. Instead, opt for something more fashionable like a pair of skinny jeans or tights.

Cargo Pants

cargo pants
I haven’t really seen that many people wear cargo pants, but this trend sure has expired a few years ago. Keep the cargo pants for painting, lounging, and working around the house.

Bubble Skirts

bubble skirtThey came and they went, but they didn’t stay long. Bubble skirts tend to make you look wider, so why even go for that? Keep them away at least for this upcoming season.

2010 Grammy Fashion: Hits and Misses

The 2010 Grammys were nothing shot of spectacular this year, especially with some amazing performances by Pink, Beyonce, Lady GaGa and of course, the Michael Jackson tribute. Here are some of my favorite red carpet looks, as well as some that I didn’t entirely agree with.

Rihanna: Miss

Rihanna at the 2010 Grammy AwardsI hate to say this, but Rihanna’s dress and whole look was a little too weird for me. I mean what happened to this girl? She used to be so cute and girly, and now…I just don’t know what to make of her. Please, let your hair grow out and next time wear something a little less “cold”.

Taylor Swift: Hit

Taylor Swift at the 2010 GrammysI can’t say enough how much I love this dress on Taylor. On anyone else, it might have looked a little off, but she pulls this dress off like a real princess.

Beyonce: On the Fence

Beyonce at the 2010 GrammysI’m not sure I love this dress so much just because it reminds me of drapes. But I have to say that it fits Beyonce perfectly and showcases her curves like nothing else.

Britney Spears: Miss

Britney Spears at the 2010 GrammysWhat the hell was Britney thinking? I didn’t even see her at the Grammys when I watched them on tv, but then I stumbled upon this picture, and apparently she was there?? No wonder we didn’t see her…that outfits is a disaster! At least she looks happy!

Miley Cyrus: Hit

Miley Cyrus at the 2010 GrammysI can’t believe I’m saying this, but I actually like Miley’s outfit, although a lot of people are saying it’s too “risque” for her age. But considering she’s a famous Hollywood songstress/actress with millions of dollars, she can pretty much wear anything she wants!

Alice in Wonderland Inspired Fashion

So to celebrate the new Alice in Wonderland movie that’s coming out tomorrow in 3D, I thought I’d gather up some of my favorite Alice-inspired looks. First off, I should let you guys know that Alice in Wonderland has been my favorite movie since I was like 4, and it’s still is! So you can imagine how excited I am not only about the movie, but also about all the incredibly amazing Alice-inspired items, including a little something special from Swarovski. So, I’ve compiled a few of my fave looks, so happy browsing:)
Alice-Inspired Swarovski
Who doesn’t love Swarovski crystals? Especially when paired with Alice…I’m drooling!

The Blue Alice Dress
Totally wearable and undeniably cute, this is your perfect Alice-inspired dress. From Alice and Olivia.

Alice-Inspired Headband
This is such a cute headband from Forever21, that you could wear it at any time of the day and it’ll ad an instant pop to your ensemble!

Nails Like Alice!
I just have to get my hands on this Alice in Wonderland OPI collection! Have any of you guys tried it out yet? Either way, the colors are totally wearable!

Alice Booties
These cute Oxford booties come in three different colors and are very versatile. Channel your inner Alice!

7 Slimming Looks

As the summer approaches, we seem to be wearing less and less clothes and that means one thing: body consciousness! All those months of scarfing down delicious Holiday food has made us all a little bloated and unhappy with ourselves, but thankfully, you don’t have to hide under baggy clothes to feel good about yourself. Of course I encourage everyone to eat healthy and exercise on a regular basis, but also to pick the right clothing for their body types. So here are 7 slimming looks for your every problem area.
If You Have Wide Hips

There is absolutely nothing wrong with hips: they’re feminine, sexy, and everyone has them! But if you’re a little self conscious, I suggest you go for a pair of fitted flare leg jeans. These type of denim balances by creating a triangle with your hips as the high point.
If You’re Short

If you want to add a little height, straight-leg boyfriend jeans do just that. They create the allusion of a longer, slimmer leg, especially when paired with a pair of sexy heels or wedges.
If You Have a Tummy Bulge

And who doesn’t, right? Pick tops that are a little looser at the front and that drape off your shoulders. This will hide your tummy perfectly. Also, ruffled tops are perfect since they draw attention to the neckline and away from the mid-section.
If You Don’t Have a Waist

If your waist needs a little nip, there’s nothing better than a wide belt to fix that. Wear it on your waist over a flowy summer dress to add structure and a tiny waist.
If You Want to Emphasize Your Bust

Strappy maxi dresses are the perfect type of dresses to enhance your bust, but they also add a very nice slimming effect overall. Choose a maxi dress with sequins around the bust area to draw attention upwards.
If You Want to Look Slimmer

If you want to make the appearance of an overall slimmer look, V-stripped patterns are perfect for that, like the skirt in the above picture. They draw the attention down towards the body, making you appear slimmer and taller too!
If You’re Heavier on Top

Don’t be afraid to wear blazers…they can actually make you look 10 pounds lighter! Throw a fitted blazer over a pair of boyfriend jeans and see the difference a structured jacket can make!

Trend to be Weary of: Sheer Fabric

This spring and summer there’s a new trend that’s been especially popular with celebrities and that’s sheer fabrics. Although these types of fabric can look totally cute and feminine, they can be rather tricky to pull off and, if you’re not careful can actually make you look cheap. So here are a few things you should look out for when wear sheer fabrics!

The sheer top Lindsay Lohan is wearing above is just the right amount of sexy without overdoing it. When wearing a sheer top make sure your bra is almost the same color! And in her case, a leather motorcycle vest over the sheer top is just perfect.

#1: One Sheer Piece is All You Need

Don’t ever go for a sheer dress because well…that’s pretty self-explanatory! Oh and that includes jump suits or 2 piece ensembles. Instead, choose a soft, feminine top with sheer sides or arms.

#2: Say NO to Sheer Pants

Don’t even know if these exist, but I’m sure they do! In any case, sheer pants are a no-no unless you’re at the beach!

#3: Be Sexy, Not Sleazy

Sheer fabrics are hard to pull off if you’re not quite sure what to do. So before you head out the door, think really hard and decide if you look sexy or sleazy…there’s a big difference! If you’re donning a sheer top, make sure it’s tasteful and never let your entire bra show!

#4: Less is More

When wearing sheer fabrics keep in mind that they’re very eye catching, so pick a feminine top with sheer accents such as the sleeves or sides of a top.

Dressing-up Sexy!

Sexy Dresses for the Lean Figure

Lean framed girls need to rely on clothing that will make them stand out. Since curves are barely there, there needs to be something that will accentuate the body.

To created the illusion of sexy curves, wear a dress with eye-popping patterns such as stripes, polka dots, pretty much anything.

Also, look for bust-enhancing seams and hemlines that gather above the knee.

Sexy Dresses for the Petite Figure

Petite ladies are smaller in proportion and also shorter in height. Finding the perfect dress can be a little tricky, but if you know exactly what to go for, it can be so much fun because petites can pretty much get away with anything!

First and foremost, make sure you add some height to your legs by pairing your sexy dress with a pair of heels. As for the dress, rock a super short length dress or miniskirt. This will elongate your legs, making them look a mile long!

Wide or capped sleeves and ruffled edges help broaden your shoulders. Tunic dresses are also adorable for a petite figure.

Sexy Dresses for the Busty Girl

For busty ladies, it’s easy to pull off the perfect dress, just as long as you don’t get carried away. We know you have it, but it’s up to you how much you should flaunt it and how much of it you should keep discreet.

Make sure that when wearing a dress, you only reveal a hint of cleavage with a demure scoop or V-shape neckline. Look for dresses that have halter ties to hold everything in and minimize the jiggle.

Wide necklines are also good for this figure as the accentuate the neck but don’t show too much cleavage. Think Marilyn Monroe styled dress. Perfect for you!

Sexy Dresses For Full Hips

Sometimes it can be hard finding that perfect dress to fit your exact shape. Full hipped ladies have a tougher time because it’s harder to find a dress that will curve your hips graciously without overdoing it.

Thankfully, there are lots of dress styles out there that compliment the full hips figure, like Beyonce’s. It’s very easy to pull off, and looks fabulous on anyone!

Make sure to get a dress that will draw the eye upward with embellishments such as bows, sashes, or sparklers up top. Also, choose A-line shapes that nip at the waist but flutter and breeze around the hips.
To make it easier for you, think 50’s style dresses. They are very form flattering, and look amazing on anyone!

7 Ways to Get a Beautiful Complexion

Beautiful, flawless skin doesn’t just happen overnight. It takes work, perseverance, and most of all, patience. Here are 7 ways to get beautiful skin…keep these up and within a few weeks you’ll have amazing skin.

#1. Cleanse Morning and Night

One of the most important steps in skin care is to cleanse your skin every single morning and every single night before bed. If you fall asleep with your makeup on, you’re basically giving bacteria a perfect breeding ground and you’ll wake up with some unwanted pimples.

#2. Know Your Skin Type

Whether your skin is dry, oily, or combination, you need to get the right products for your skin type. So if you have oily skin for example, make sure that your cleansers, toners, and moisturizers are designed for oily skin. Also, make sure your foundation matches up with your skin tone. Again, if you have oily skin you should stay away from heavy, cakey foundations and instead go with minerals.

#3. Exfoliate

Exfoliating gets rid of dead skin cells that can accumulate on your skin. This is important not only for your complexion but the rest of your body as well. Your skin cannot absorb creams and lotions if it has a layer of dead skin cells hanging around. Get a good, gentle exfoliator that you can use 2-3 times a week. Wet your face, and exfoliate very gently. If you’re too rough on your skin, you’ll just end up breaking the soft tissue and that’s when bacteria starts harboring.

#4. Drink Plenty of Water

Keeping a healthy diet is one of the most important things when it comes to skin. So if you want a beautiful, glowing complexion it’s important that you consume at least 8 glasses of water a day. Oh and, no smoking! Smoking is not only horrible for your skin, but also for your hair, and well…pretty much everything else!

#5. Let Your Skin Breathe

If you must wear a concealer and foundation every day, make sure you remove it as soon as you get home. The longer you wear foundation, the more you clog your pores so if you don’t need to wear it, don’t! If you do, just make sure you give your skin a breather and go without any foundation or concealer whenever you’re at home.

#6. Take Vitamins

I’m not much for taking pills, but vitamins are very important and there’s just no way we can get all of required our vitamins and minerals in one day. To get beautiful skin make sure you take vitamins A, C, D, and E daily. An easier alternative would be to just take a daily multivitamin to help ensure you’re getting all of the nutrients your skin and body needs.

#7. Pamper Your Skin

Find time once a week to pamper your skin from head to toe. Exfoliate, moisturizer, and prepare an all-natural mask. This avocado and carrot cream mask is one of my favorites not only because it’s all natural but because it actually works. The avocado combined with the carrots leaves your skin feeling soft, fresh, and young again, so don’t forget to take some time out for yourself in indulge a little!

2010 MTV Movie Awards Best and Worst Dressed

The 2010 MTV Movie Awards showcased some gorgeous celebrities, but also some downright horrible dress choices that we’d like to address! Below are your best and worst dressed celebrities at the 2010 MTV Movie Awards.

Best Dressed

Scarlett Johansson

Scarlett always looks stunning so it’s no wonder she looks amazing here in an emerald green dress. And can I say how much I love the hair?
Vanessa Hudgens

Vanessa Hudgens looks cute as a button in this chic flowy white dress, especially next to Zac Efron…they just make the cutest couple!
Anna Kendrick

You might remember her from Up in the Air, but she looked stunning last night at the awards in a summery and flirty Zac Posen dress.
Cameron Diaz

Cameron graced the red carpet in a beautiful Diane Von Furstenberg short dress which she pulled off like a pro. Again, don’t you just hate Cameron’s legs?
Paris Hilton

I can’t say I’ve liked Paris’ dress choice in the past, but all animosity aside, I really liked this white feathered dress on her…it was kind of sweet and angelic, don’t you think?

Worst Dressed

Lindsay Lohan

I know Lindsay had to wear pants to cover her ankle Scram bracelet, but a sparkly flared jump suit? I’d have to say this is one of the worst if not the worst dressed person at the MTV Movie Awards.
Christina Aguilera

Apart from the fact that Christina Aguilera looked like Marilyn Manson and Lady Gaga had a child together during her performance, this red carpet look isn’t working either. Didn’t she just have a baby not long ago? Please, Christina, have some respect for yourself…or at least for your baby!
Kristen Stewart

Ok so I get the fact that Kristen is very awkward in person as you might have noticed, but does she have to look awkward too? That Dolce and Gabbana dress just isn’t working for her for some reason..maybe it’s her hair? I don’t know, I know I just don’t like it!
Eva Mendes

So…meh..I really didn’t care for her outfit very much. That dress had no shape to it, and it just looked like she was trying to hide something. Maybe a bun in the oven? Who knows?
Jessica Biel

Jessica Biel looked like she got dressed in the dark. I don’t know if she was trying to look like she knew what she was doing, but it just looked BAD.

Undecided Goes to…Katy Perry

I’m not sure if I love it or hate it, so I’m going to leave this one undecided and let you guys judge for yourselves! I definitely have to give her big props for pulling off a bright blue wig (which actually looked cute on her!).  I do love the nail color though!
